Hi
Well another thats fine mess we got into as that famous person from Ulverston used to say.
I hope that those who didn't get to Piel had as good a time as we did on the Island.
I reckon we could have sorted it all out as the Toilet block was working lights and all although the pub had shut two weeks ago and is waiting for a new King/Queen to be annointed.
Nine of us went across and we had a very atmospheric night with a fantastic camp fire and lots of good tales to tell.
We had a good mooch round the Island and had a couple of hours paddle today looking at the seal colony and such.
There was one that had it's eye on Stuart and Jane folloeing their boats for quite a distance.
Anyway hope went well for the everyone else and there's always another day.
see you soon
Eric
Hi to all you island hopper's.....the mainland group also had an excellent weekend, although nothing went as planned it all turned out very well....we got there around 3 o'clock and of course called in for a pint at a local pub where we asked about the ferry over to piel only to be told that the pub was boarded up they also thought the toilets were too and they didn't know if there was a water tap apart from in the few private houses on the island . This didn't sound too good so we drove around and found a lovely little camp-site with a play area and nearby pub ( always a good idea ) . We eventually got through to the rest of the group who were on route but they decided to go to the island anyway ( we think Eric was quite happy really as he would save his 2 pound camp fee ha ha ha ) . We set our tents up then headed for the pub again for our tea and decided to stay there and danced the night away to a local singer who thought he was fantastic.......we were the best audiance he'd ever had :D and I'm sure we impressed the locals with our fancy footwork........ Sunday morning started much too early with three or four chickens trying to out-do each other for the dawn chorus, just what you need after a night out, we ignored them and finally dragged ourselves out of our tents and laughed at the video's of the previous nights fun.We had a nice lazy morning having breakfast and plenty of coffees then after lunch we decided to go and meet up with Eric and the others on the island and spend the day there but couldn't reach anyone by phone so we packed up and went there anyway . On arriving at the ferry launch we saw the boat coming in to drop some people off so we started down the long jetty only to see the ferry turn and leave without us.....it turned out it wasn't running today and he was just dropping some friends off. We obviously weren't meant to get to the island at all so after coffee and cake at a cafe we headed for home
