Just wondered if anyone could give me any advice re. access on the Dee and Lune at this time of year? We were planning to do a club trip from Sheffield to the Dee next Sun (20th April) to include Serpents tail and Town falls, but I've a feeling we're not meant to paddle it now...am I right? How strict are they?

Would the Lune be a better option or is there also no access there now either?

Any other ideas of rivers that hold their water (are paddle-able when there's not much rain) and are about grade 3?

Hi Jen,

I paddle the Dee all year round and only once have we had any aggravation. Having said that we only go as a small party (2 - 4) and not as part of a large group. Any problems will be at the put in at Chainbridge Hotel, once you are on the water you can avoid fishermen because of the width of the river. There have been reports of cars vandalised at the put in car park but we have had no problems.

I have only paddled the Lune in the fishing closed season and do not know what access is like at this time of year. The get out at Killington Bridge is on a fairly heavily fished section and is in a quite narrow gorge like section, lot of potential for problems. Try and contact Will Potts, he will probably know more about the Lune.
