I just received an email about an event happening at burrs about kayaking and canoeing and the acces situation:
Do you want to be on TV and also help the access campaign? The BBC are planning on being at the Burrs Country Park on Saturday the 26th Jan at 9am to film paddlers and to interview paddlers about the access situation along with the head of access, Andy Green and Tamsin from the Rivers Access Campaign.
If you feel you help represent the arguments below and been seen to paddle then we are looking for your support.
· Canoe sport is ideal for all.. including those with special needs
· Good for health, personal development.. help prevent obesity and antisocial behaviour
· Not a canoeing v fishing issue
· Access rights on land and now to go to the coast by legislation .. the thing that is left is inland waters … we would like to use something similar to the Scottish Land Reform Act.. rights with responsibilities..
· Large population nearby who could enjoy the sport if we had more access more could paddle
· Better understanding of countryside etc
· Not just for canoeists .. but swimmers, walkers etc would benefit
If you can make the event and are happy to be filmed then please do, it is an opportunity to bring the the access campaign to the national media.
Also we need competent open canoeists that could take the film crew in a canoe with you to help film on the water.
You will need your own kit.
Just give me a pm or leave a message if people are up for going and maybe we can sort something out.
