Hi,
I knowyou guys often paddle the Roeburn but not sure ifyou have done it recently, i paddled it on Saturday 2-12-07 only to discover a drastic increase in tree hazards what require portaging and 2 man made hazards in the form of ropes across the water. I removed one but the other is very serious and could be fatal in higher water levels!
It is situated about 300ms after the 1st bridge you pass under after the tree which has been portaged for years. Once passing under the small foot bridge, the rivercontinues on its merry way and then bends round to the right about 100m's after thebend somebody in teir wisdom has secured a fallen tree into place spanning the entire river with rope!! they seem to have nailed planks to it to make a walkway and then suspended a rope as a handrail above it, it has already gathered several other trees and if the water is anything above a medium level i'm sure kayakers will be an unwanted addition as well as i suspect the eddy just upstream of it on river right may not be there.
below here there are several trees down some we needed to walk around and some we could squeeze under but again in higer flows could be more problematic. once you get to the gorge it is clear there after.
Safe boating
