Hi Folks,Mick and myself and possibly David are looking to get out paddling this coming weekend. 24/25 Nov .Mick and I can definitely do Sat, or maybe Sunday.I guess we are looking for a river about grade 2/3.Mick is building up his river skills in Open Canoe, and I am doing the same in Kayak. If anyone is up for it let me know, and we can organise something before all the water goes down the plughole.Steve. ps. I remember a river that we did last year ,on two separate trips The Greta.I only did the first section ,i had the Flu when it was paddled the second time ,so i would'nt mind doing the whole thing in one go .All suggestions welcome for this or any other trip!
I will be able to go on the sunday but not the saturday. where abouts were you thinking of going?

I can do Saturday but not Sunday.
The water in the Lakes last weekend was very unevenly spread, the Greta was below the marker and apparently should not have been paddled, shame to spoil a generous access agreement. The Kent was far too big for open boats or inexperienced kayakers but the Leven about 5 miles away had no water , explain that !
I would be happy just to be out on any grade of river, just let me know what the plan is. (Lune ? very popular with open boaters, one portage for opens complete with angry farmer )

I have now rearranged my plans and can make Sunday as that seems to be the most popular option.

Hi Kevin ,Frank,David and anyone else that fancies a paddle on Sunday.Mick
and i have decided to paddle on Sunday, because that is when most of us can
get out.So as long as we pick a suitable river ,we can all paddle together. I
have already come up with one idea, but i am sure there are lots of other
suggestions,any offers!!!!!! Steve.
there is the river wenning which sound like it could be a decent paddle which leads into the lune not sure what it would be like for open boats though.

Which River Greta were you thinking of Steve, the one at Keswick or the one which runs into the Lune ?

Hi Frank, as i have explained to David the Greta i am speaking about is the one in Yorkshire ,and it runs from Ingleton through Burton in Lonsdale ,to Greta Bridge. The latest English White Water guide describes it as a grade
2/3 with one drop that may be 4 in high water. The run is 10km long.last Dec
we did the first half, which i though was mainly 2 with one short section of 3.
However i had the flu when the club went back to finish it off.David has done the entire trip.Apparently there is more grade 3 in the second half .David should be able to tell us about that!Steve.
From what I remember it was a nice easy grade 2/3 river not really any difficult bits. if i remember rightly there was a nice stream entering river left which was a nice couple of metre drop which me and james ran when we went. should be easy enough not sure what the levels might be like though.

no, the thing he's worried about is the responsibility for someone if anything goes wrong for you but as we go out in a group with no real leader the responsibility is on your own back. we just look out for each other.

A good turnout of 10 ran the Greta. Bit too low for a good paddle, lots of scraping, never has 10Km seemed so long !.
Well worth doing again, but only if there was a lot more water in it when there would be no scraping and some good rapids
I agree. It's a bit like the ribble that seems to go quick when theres plenty of water. there was still enough water for jim to get stuck in a stopper and need rescueing anyway.

whatever you say. I have proof that you even asked me to rescu you and u admitted you were stuck so no point denying it.
