A two boat team of Charlie and myself ,paddled down the Grade 1(2) section of the Wye from Whitney on Wye to Ross on Wye on 24/25/26th of Oct.
The River was low but not scrapey, and with enough flow to help you along .
There was a lot of flat water ,and also a lot of easy grade 1 rapids to keep the interest going .The scenery was excellent with lots of Autumn colour and
bird life.I have personally never paddled a river that is as heavily fished as this one ,and these guys pay a lot of money to do this .Without exception all
the Anglers we passed were polite ,and in the main very friendly. We used two campsites en route ,at Preston on Wye and then at Holme Lacey, they were both good .The first site was basic and the second had every possible facility. The paddle was 51 miles long, and paddling loaded Open boats we managed to paddle about 3 miles per hour .I could recommend this for groups and families in the Summer months ,when the trip could be lengthened or
adjusted to suit the party.Canoes can be hired almost anywhere on the Wye in Summer.
