Because high water levels were forecast for Wales a hasty decision was made to run the Irwell from Ramsbottom down to the Burrs. The usually reliable indicator, the River Glaze, suggested that there would be a lot of water in the Irwell.

Not so, it was running brown but not really a lot of water. Chris, Jim, Bob and myself turned out, reasonable paddle for the first mile or so then a bit of a slog down to the Burrs site. Bury show was taking place which made the car parking very busy and the road congested. Some sun, lots of rain. Best part was when Jim tried to pull Chris off a wave, lost grip of the boat, lost grip of his paddle then turned over. He has not yet learned how to handroll so he had to **** .

It seems odd to say but lets hope for less water next Sunday
