we had a trip out to burrs this weekend for some practice on moving water.
some of the group hadn't been on moving water, some hadnt been on much and some just wanted some practice..
before going on the water chris called us all together to give us a talk about safety and hand signals.
the water level was spot on.
we split up into two groups.on our first run down our group all managed to shoot the weir ok with no incidents.we were all buzzin and made our way downstream as a group.there were six of us
big kev,jen holden,kev,greg,paul and me.
we practiced ferry glides breaking in and out of eddys and staying as a group looking out for each other.
on our second run big kev shot the weir first while we waited for his signal............................................ .
no signal?????????
waited a little and jen asked me to go to make sure he was ok and she could watch from above...as i aproached the top he was just rolling up.he had span round on the way down and the water grabed him for a bit until it decided to let go...........
verry funny once we knew he was ok.....greg and paul were next no probs then kev who was in the madness cos we had swapped boats(i wanted to try his strech) he got to the bottom through the boil n then tipped!!! half a second later he was back up with his first PROPPER roll....well done mate.
next eddy we swapped boats back...i wasnt confident in his boat nor him in mine....lol
we all tried a bit of surfing and more eddy hoping down to the bottom then a break for dinner.
we had a couple of more runs down and at the end of the day decided to run from halfway down flat out for a race to the bridge..greg won (first time on the river did excellent and won both races he did realy well all day)
then the instructors had a race with no paddles or spraydecks.
the rest of us dotted the bankside for them to pass...they must have smelled a rat cos they rafted up.
after the first rapid we dove in one by one to get them swimming... after two drops the raft was no more and all of us were swimming down.
a good end to a cracking day....

big thankyou to chris, bigkev, sarah and jen looked after us and made for a realy enjoyable day, cant wait for the next one..

Hi ,Landy Andy, and myself went to Burrs on Wed.We did'nt do the Weir as it
was in good form and churning up a bit.Apart from that we did'nt think is was sensible with just the two of us.Ok we bottled it! Anyway we had an enjoyable time trying to work on the basics and play a bit. We had one swim each, playing on waves but we were not put off and went back for more.
The water level was good, about 5 inches below the block that sticks out from the bridge on the carpark side,so i think it will be at a good level this
weekend. Steve.
